Could America be Headed to Another Great Depression?

A CNN poll recently given found that just under half of all Americans feared that America is headed towards another Great Depression within the next 12 months. The article linked here basically says that the debate surrounding the next election will focus on bread and butter issues for US households rather than other regularly debated issues such as abortion.  What do you think?  Are we headed to a Great Depression or can America be saved?

Bristol Myer's Pushing New Cancer Drug Remedies.

I think it is fantastic that new drugs are being created to counter cancer. My only point I wish to say is more cancers could be prevented through proper diet, avoiding processed foods, and doing things to protect the body rather than expose it to undue risk.

People, foe or facebook friend?

People are fickle on facebook. I have friends from high school, college, and jobs that I keep in touch with and facebook is a great tool to do that. On the flipside of this, I have noticed a group of people that will delete you if you don't hang out with them regularly or talk to them all the time. One person, a well known drama queen around here, actually had the gumption to message me and tell me she was only keeping friends on her page that she actually talked to/hung out with, and that she did not want it to be awkward if we saw each other at church or out in public. My response....Your loss. She LOST it when I told her that. She blasted me for being rude and not paying her enough attention? Huh?

I have friends I am close to and we can go days, weeks, and months without talking. My best friend and I have known each other for 15 years. We can chew each other out and still love each other too. The others I just don't get. Quite frankly, I don't care either. I guess my point is the more I get upset about whether people decide to "keep" me as a friend on facebook, the less time I have to devote to other important things in my life like my marriage and school.

My job takes up 25 hours a week of my time. My school takes up 40 hours. My marriage takes up the rest. My time with God is 24 hours a day. Just because I don't talk to you all the time does not mean I don't care or I am not praying for you.

On the other hand, if somebody chooses to defriend me it is their loss. We all have the gift of choice. I cannot be all things to all people, all of the time. I just don't have the energy now. I also have the choice not to accept a friends request from somebody who has hurt me in the past. I can forgive them for being so rude, but it doesn't mean I have to put up with them or their behaviors.

I guess my point in all of this is that I have been challenged to look past a person's fickle behavior and love them despite the fact they are being hurtful. I have also come to realize that when you bend over backwards to help friends in need, that often the most critically wounded people can be the most devastating in their volley of attacks. Hurt people, hurt people.

Medal of Honor Ranger is a Prankster

Prank Loving Medal of Honor Recipient Takes It All In Hand. If you click on the link and read the story, it kind of puts things into perspective.  This is the type of recovery I like to see.  Not everybody responds in the same way and that is ok.  What gets me is how he has been able to come to terms with his life and his experiences.  Now he has a new mission.  How much more do we react when we get thrown a curveball and fall apart.  I know I did when my husband first deployed.  Then I put on my big girl panties, sucked it up, and overcame it the best way that I knew how.

What are some of the ways you cope with loss?

Traveling for Tricare

Military families can appreciate the humor in this little nugget of useless information I am about to share.  I have to get fitted for orthotics to put in my shoes.  Tens years of waitressing and bartending, and years of running have left me with two very arthritic feet and ankles.  Popping ibuprofen like candy, I finally had to go in and get a cortisone injection into my left foot just to reduce the inflammation and swelling. It worked, but it has been strongly suggested that I get my feet cast for orthotics to help me when I am walking around.

Here is the problem.  I have Tricare Standard...I LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to self refer, but in this case, the only way I can get Tricare to pay for them is to drive up to Fort Gordon and see the orthopoedist up there.  Yeah..you heard me Fort Gordon, which is 2.5 hours away from Savannah where I live.

Good thing I can request a day off from work if I need to take care of something medicallly.  And the government wants to implement universal healthcare into the picture?  Baby, hobble a mile or several hundred in my shoes and see if government healthcare works efficiently.  Gotta go.  Time to fill up the gas tank and drive to my next appointment!
